Fat Bars Overhyped?

Definitely not!  Reasons?

1.  Improved Grip Strength

2.  Forearm strength will improve

3. Improved hand strength for Combat sports athletes or any athlete who has to catch a ball or engage someone in their sport.

4.  Working the forearms harder elicits an increase in motor unit recruitment in the upper body prime movers.

Remember, your upper body is only as strong as it’s weakest link and for most people that is their forearms!

Pastured meats and eggs

Animals raised on pasture and not in confined feed lots, produce a much healthier product.  The omega-3 to omega-6 ratio in these animals is much better than those raised on the big factory farms.  Pastured animals are also much less disease-ridden and therefore don’t have to be pumped full of pharmaceuticals.  Find a local farmer who raises their animals on pasture and try their beef, eggs, poultry, etc.  Support your local farms because it is becoming increasingly difficult for them to co-exist with the big boys!

BCAA’s

The use of Branched Chain Amino Acids(BCAA’s) before, during and after exercise can greatly help the body recover from exercise.  For weight gain try .40g/kg bodyweight  taken before, during and after exercise.  For weight loss try .15g/kg bodyweight.  Recovery from workouts is critical to success in training!

Transfer of Training!

It is well known from Dr. Anatoly Bondarchuk’s work that it is very important for exercises to transfer well to the particular sport involved.  This transfer of training becomes more and more important the more advanced an athlete becomes.  A lower level athlete can get away with doing more general preparatory type exercises in their routine.  The more advanced an athlete becomes the more specific the exercises must become to the individual sport.  An example of this would be a young shot putter may do a lot of squats, deadlifts, cleans, etc. as part of their workout.  A more advanced thrower would do a much higher volume of the actual throwing events with lighter and heavier implements because these exercises will transfer to their competition much more effectively.
